Document Management System
TokOpen Indexer requires TokOpen Personal Edition,
TokOpen Small Business Access or SQL Editions,
or TokOpen Enterprise Edition to be installed.
Full Text Index server/ workstation
The recommendation is to install a dedicated
workstation for performing the OCR and text indexing.
This can be done on the file server presuming
sufficient resources are available. The faster
the processor, the more RAM installed and the
fewer other processes occurring at the same time,
the faster TokOpen Indexer will OCR and index
documents. The operating system must be 32 bit
MS Windows based, preferably NT4 or Windows 2000.
Performance Benchmarks
Using a Pentium 500 workstation configured with
128MB RAM, TokOpen OCR will process 1,000 pages
per hour and full text index 5,000 files an hour.
Storage Considerations
For application documents you need to plan for
providing 25% of the original document size.
For image documents, first calculate the metadata
(OCR data) size. Assume 2Kb for each A4 or Letter
single sided image to be full text indexed. The
full text index size is 25% of the metadata size.
Add the two results to calculate the storage,
which for a single image side will be 2.5Kb.
For a typical MS Word document of 100Kb may take
25Kb of index space.
These figures are provided as a guide and can
vary considerably depending upon the amount of
text contained on each page and the contents of
each application document.
